COLOMBO, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Sri Lanka Customs has reported a revenue of one trillion rupees (approximately 3.3 billion U.S. dollars) during the first eight months of 2024, according to a statement from the President’s Media Division (PMD) on Friday, citing Director General of Customs Sarath Nonis.
Nonis said that this is the first time customs has generated revenue of over a trillion rupees. He noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has set a revenue target of 1.534 trillion rupees (around 5 billion dollars) for the country in 2024 and expressed confidence in meeting this goal.
Nonis highlighted that the previous record for customs revenue was 975 billion rupees (about 3.25 billion dollars), achieved in 2023. ■
