someone who is considering using this to bring lunch to the office.
NOR is it a lunchbox collector.  This box belongs to the person who wants that perfect shabby grungy rustic shelf display piece that's going to hold their collection of ?????....whatever!  Sometimes people take boxes like this and "antique" them to look like this intentionally.  This one already has the true Natural patina that only true age can bring.  Let it overflow with dried violets flowers for example.  Or the other extreme and fill it with used vintage shotgun shell casings or toy marbles.
It was dark when I took these photos so I used FLASH.  In reality this lunchbox is NOT as bright green as it shows in the photos.  The green is a bit darker and more subdued.  Use Photo#7 as best reference to true color.

Real Mid-Century Classic Metal Lunchbox and Thermos
.  Before TV Shows like "
Gunsmoke"
and others started producing lunchboxes with graphics this is what students carried to school everyday.  This particular one is unbranded and comes with a Thermos by the American Thermos Bottle Co.  The Lunchbox is 8.5"W x 6 1/4"T x 3"D.  The Thermos is 8" tall and says "24 1/2" on the underside which I assume refers to ounces it holds.  Frankly I don't know if the thermos is original to the lunchbox.  My gut tells me that it is not.  But, it is surely period correct to the lunchbox so why not?   I am sure my photos will best further describe this item.
Condition:
On a scale of 1 - 10 (Ten being New in Package Only), I can confidently grade this item's condition to be a
solid 6.5.
Overall and Especially for being 55+ Years Old, this lunchbox is in Fair Original Condition.  There are some small sporadic dings.  It is however No Less than 90% Immaculate.  I don't sell dirty items and I personally clean each item before I list and photograph.  The claps works problem free and there is no penetrating rust.  This whole box is completely solid.  The handle and clasp are securely attached.   In short, other than surface wear this lunchbox is ready for another 75 years.  The Thermos has 2 incredibly TINY "dings" which can't even be seen but only felt.  It also is at least 90% Immaculate with no odors.
If there was a secondary interior cap then it is missing.
